Born in 1997 in Aalborg, Maiken Lindhardt's paintings fascinate with their painterly brushstrokes, their mysterious mask-like faces and their characteristic color palette. She is very much inspired by nature: its colors, its contrasts between light and dark, calm and ferocious – the smells, the sounds and the animals. Nature is where she finds peace. An exploration of us humans and the sides of ourselves that we usually try to hide equally fascinates her. She drew and painted ever since she was a small child, and growing up in an artistic family, she had many opportunities to learn from older artists and creatives. Her artistic role models include artists like Per Kirkeby, Svend Engelund, Tal R, Henrik Godsk and Michael Kvium. When painting, she channels the feelings, ideas and color palettes that come naturally to her during the painting process, trying not stifle her painting by planning too far ahead.
