Gihun Lee born in 1980 South Korea is an international award-winning illustrator and artist, who mixes fantasy and reality in his art works. Gihun Lee's "Masquerade" series adopt the myth of "Noah's Ark" and views the dualistic worldview of the West through a numinous (Rudolf Otto's concept of the holy) perspective. It depicts our reality facing the crisis of climate catastrophe through the appearance and actions of children wearing masks, creating a fantastical realism series. With this series of paintings he is constantly challenging the viewers in their perception of the world and explores the next generation's place in society. By moving between reality and fantasy, it presents a world filled with both the allure and fear inherent in nature, offering a fresh perspective on a human-centric world. Gihun's unique style combines traditional Korean painting techniques with modern materials, creating flat, dark color planes and textured, three-dimensional forms.
