Jakob Grosse Ophoff is a German kinetic sculptor and visual artist whose work combines mechanics, movement and human behavior. Originally trained as a mechanical engineer, he graduated in 2019 before focusing fully on his artistic practice. His kinetic sculptures explore repetitive gestures, emotional tension and absurdity through motors, cranks and mechanical systems. Human-like movements become poetic, humorous or uncomfortable reflections of everyday behavior. Alongside his sculptural work, he creates paintings, drawings and limited edition prints.Jakob Grosse has presented several solo exhibitions across Germany and Scandinavia, with recent highlights including machines like us at Gallery TM51 in 2025 and Maschinen wie wir at Studio 36 in Rostock. His work has also been shown in notable cultural institutions and museums, including Jeonbuk Museum of Art, Kunsthalle Rostock, and the Wattenmeer Nationalparkzentrum. In addition to exhibitions in Germany, his practice has been presented internationally in Paris, New York, Oslo, and South Korea. Jakob Grosse is also the recipient of several awards, including the 2024 Kulturhimmel Art Prize of the Nordkirche and both the Jury and Audience Award at Artist Battle by Salve e.V. in 2023.
